Pigs

Penelope

Penelope is a “duroc” pig who was rescued alongside her brother, PeeWee. These siblings were bound for slaughter. Bred for show with the intention of going to a county fair, their fate was changed when they were surrendered to the Sanctuary.

Penelope has little ear notches, which she received at birth as a way to identify her. She is sweet, energetic and absolutely lives for her food. Her favorite treat is a watermelon!

Peewee

PeeWee was rescued alongside his sister, Penelope. Peewee was the runt of the little at birth. He was destined to be a fair pig, which means he would have been sent straight to slaughter. Luckily his size allowed him to be surrendered to the Sanctuary.

When his siblings went to market they weighed approximately 280 lbs at 6 months old. With the organic feeding program Peewee and his sister Penelope are not even 280 lbs, which means the rate of growth for their siblings to reach market weight is a very cruel process and can be debilitating for their bodies.
